The former GEP, the predecessor of the DGCP, produced official statistics under the delegation of responsibilities of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Mandatory response to surveys was defined in Article 4(1) of the National Statistical System Act (Law No 22/2008 of 13 May 2008).

This obligation only applies to the entities that make up the sample of investigations, in which case they are requested to do so, by sending a circular.
